My New German Course

19 09 2007

Today shall be the 3rd day of my German intensive course. I started this free German course since Monday. Like many, I am not a very good candidate for examinations; I didn’t do so well in my entrance exam therefore I am now in Basic Level 3. My teacher has repeatedly recommended me to try out Middle Level 1 or 2. I told her that I would stay because although I can speak German, I want to learn the grammar. Right now, I speak the Berliner German without any grammar. Yes, people can generally understand me but I’m not satisfied with myself. t like to speak without knowing the correct way to do it.  I know that it doesn’t look so nice on the completion paper but what the heck! I’m here to really learn and not just for some paper.

My parents have just left KLIA to Dubai. There are on their East Europe tour right now and they will arrive in Berlin on the 27th and then depart for Italy intensive tour again on the 1st. They will be around until 18th Oct. I can’t wait to see them as they are also bringing me some stuffs of mine.

Mark is also coming over to stay with us. He will be here this Saturday and stick around for about 10 days. He’s currently studying in Spain. He’s back to sit for an exam and then relax a little. After that, he will return to Spain for an intenrship with IBM.

I should go now, have my breakfast, shower, and go for my class.

Last Year Today

11 09 2007

Today, marks the complete first year of me in Germany.

I remembered when the first day I arrived here. I was with oversized XL luggage, coudn’t speak a word of German, lost. & alone. I remembered this nice girl who helped me find the studentenwerk to pick up my house keys and all. I am still looking for this nice girl; I don’t know who she is or what her name is. Perhaps she was an angel sent down to guide a lost soul.

Today, I am in a steady relationship with the loveliest person I could only dream of in my past 25 years. Although I am now 10.000€ poorer then when I came; I still happier than ever. But sometimes I still wonder what I would become if I didn’t come to Germany. Would I still be working for Flextronics? Would I still be in my last relationship? Would I be living with my parents? I wonder.

I do have to give thanks to my previous relationship partner. We were together for 5 1/2 years. Many time during those years I wanted to leave him but didn’t do so because I felt bad leaving him. He didn’t do anything wrong. The only problem was that I started getting matured too fast. Too fast for him to keep up. I was working in an international manufacturing company, I could speak at least 4 different languages fluently, I had my international group of friends, and I was even planning to buy my own house already. He was still living under his parents’ roof, has no diploma nor degree, he works for his parents’ small family enterprise (in which I hated all the time), speaks only fluent Cantonese, had friends (of his own and not related to business) in numbers countable with hands. I had to find a way out and although it was an expensive one; it was worth it.

I am now preparing my thesis and in another 1/2 year, I have completed my masters and is then a certified Master of Science holder.  I hope that by then I would be able to get a job and also be able to be called an EU resident or citizen.

My First Gardening Experience

9 09 2007

Last weekend in Dannenfeld was great. There were 3 of us; me, Christian, and Frank.

We went there on Friday in the afternoon and came back today. On Friday night Christian made us dinner – Roulande. On Saturday morning we had our “brunch” and then everyone studied a little. Soon after, it was dinner time already. Of course, we had our fare of barbecue again. This time, I made some garlic butter prawns with brandy. It was nice. In the night, we played “Biene Maja” again.

Today after breakfast, we started cleaning and packing up. Christian’s parents will be back on Thursday and that means that we won’t be going back there before they return. So I did my fare of some gardening, place some new flowers in the vase, got my lavender for our Berlin room, and so on.

This weekend was fun. Frank was more fun that he seems. Normally, he seems like a shy quiet guy but this weekend proved otherwise. He’s fun, and nice.

I hope that we can make this trip again.

Relaxing Weekend

3 09 2007

We had a relaxing weekend in Walsleben while house sitting. Some friends came by and stayed 2 nights with us.

First night we had spaghetti with tomato sauce and the second night a barbecue. Perhaps this weekend we will go back there again since the neighbours take care of the cats during weekdays only. Then we can have barbecue every night.

My order for the German Grammar book has arrived. I believe that I will soon start with the work book and improve my German.
